Week 3 of Summer Boost was filled with creativity, exploration, hands-on learning, and plenty of opportunities for students to grow both inside and outside the classroom!
Students across all grade levels kicked off the week with one of our favorite activities: Tie-Dye Day! Students designed their own colorful creations, transforming shirts, socks, headbands, and other clothing items into unique keepsakes. The creativity and excitement continued throughout the week as students celebrated Tropical Island Day, showing off bright colors, tropical outfits, and school spirit. We wrapped up the week with Sports Day, where students enjoyed friendly competition, teamwork, and outdoor activities while taking advantage of the beautiful summer weather.

In ELA, students continued building their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills through engaging units connected to science, history, literature, and real-world topics. Younger students explored story elements, opinion writing, pollinators, animals, and the importance of water in our environment. Students practiced strengthening their writing by adding details, creating clear topic sentences, and supporting their ideas with evidence. Older students analyzed novels, short stories, historical texts, and primary sources while practicing skills such as making inferences, identifying themes, analyzing characters, and citing textual evidence. Students also explored topics including mythology, the Constitution, American history, and literary elements such as suspense, characterization, and foreshadowing.

In Math, students continued strengthening important skills through hands-on activities and real-world applications. Students practiced data collection and representation through pictographs, tallies, and graphs; developed their understanding of place value, regrouping, and multi-digit operations; explored multiplication, division, area, ratios, percentages, and proportional relationships; and worked with more advanced concepts such as slope, inequalities, transformations, and equivalent ratios. Students used visual models, outdoor activities, collaborative problem-solving, and real-world examples to deepen their understanding and build confidence.

This week also included exciting field trip experiences for several grade levels, including visits to the American Museum of Natural History and the New-York Historical Society. These trips gave students opportunities to connect classroom learning to the world around them through exploration, discussion, and discovery.

Beyond academics, students continued building community through activities like outdoor games, teamwork challenges, and clubs such as Girls Who Code, where students strengthened friendships, collaboration skills, and confidence.
Week 3 was a wonderful celebration of learning, creativity, and connection. We are so proud of the curiosity, effort, and enthusiasm our students continue to bring to Summer Boost each day. We can’t wait to see what exciting experiences the next week will bring!
