Summer Programming 2026 is officially underway, and we had an amazing first week filled with learning, exploration, and community building! Students across all grade levels spent the week getting to know their classmates, establishing classroom routines, and completing beginning-of-program assessments to help teachers identify strengths and areas for growth.
Our youngest learners jumped into summer with hands-on exploration, including a visit from the Staten Island Museum where they learned about animal habitats and created their own animal masks. Students in the lower grades also began building foundational skills in reading, writing, and math while exploring topics like pollinators, place value, addition, and problem-solving.
Our older students began diving into engaging academic units, strengthening literacy skills through close reading, writing, and discussions. They explored topics ranging from American history and government to novels like The Outsiders and To Kill a Mockingbird. In math, students reviewed key skills including ratios, proportional relationships, order of operations, algebraic expressions, and geometry concepts to prepare for continued growth throughout the summer.
Beyond the classroom, students enjoyed enriching experiences through trips to the New-York Historical Society, movement activities, yoga, dance, and DJ sessions. Our Girls Who Code students explored the power of innovation by learning about pioneers like Ada Lovelace and practicing teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
It has been an exciting start to Summer Programming! We are looking forward to a summer filled with curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and continued growth.
