Integration Charter Schools Hosts 7th Annual Futures of Education Luncheon

On Friday, January 12th Integration Charter School’s hosted it’s 7th annual Futures of Education Luncheon at the Grand Oaks Country Club.

Welcoming over 200 guests including ICS Staff and board members, community partners, public school educators and leaders and local organizations,  the luncheon celebrated  the concept of “Teachers Growing Teachers”, the underlying spirit and direct result of Lavelle Prep’s Dissemination Grant partnership. By partnering with local public schools and under the direction of Ms. Evelyn Finn and keynote speaker Dr. Paula Bevan, teacher leaders from Lavelle Prep have been developing relationships with local public schools in the spirit of improving teacher practice through meaningful evaluation and feedback.

The Dissemination Grant  is in the middle of it’s second year of work within the program, with a year and a half to go.

Dr. Bevan, of the Danielson Group, addressed the audience with a focus on how teachers can embrace the evaluation process collaboratively, and how as a result, instruction improves and drives meaningful results. Through an engaging presentation, video clips of the work in action was shown, featuring teacher working collaboratively in real time on lesson plans, planning conferences, and post-lesson discussions and evaluations.

The event culminated with a rich panel discussion featuring participants from PS44, PS78, IS27 and Port Richmond High School as well as David Frank, the Executive Director of the New York State Charter School office. Panel members discussed  their shared collegial experiences within the grant, the effects of the efforts within the individual schools, positive experiences within the process as a whole and their support of the underlying philosophy.

Lavelle Prep’s staff band The Wolftones provided musical entertainment both before and after the event, which was made possible in part by event sponsors Northfield Bank, Bentson Insurance Group, and Cohen Schneider Law, P.C.
